It started off like such a good idea, "hey all this crap on the radio that claims to be hip hop sucks! lets take it back to the roots!" i was just beginning to feel a little bit of hope for the scene. thinking ok thinks got so bad that they just started over in order to save it, thats cool. i saw the hair cuts go back to flat tops, the dookie chains come back (in subtle tasteful ways mind you), even saw cats buying $89 affordable addidas rather than them expensive ass $270 j's. things where looking up. then like a plot twist at the beginging of a movie, things went tragically wrong. it was as if whoever was in charge of turning the clock back got one of the hands stuck and things began to move at a rapid pace.
the subtle retro look that gave smooth and clever nods to the 80's and 90's suddenly became not so subtle and before you knew it people weren't wearing outfits that people normally wore in those times: they were wearing costumes.
almost overnight it suddenly became the norm to see a grown ass man walk around in a full cross colors outfit with a purple mohawk, glasses without the lenses, and a radio raheem boombox (just the case of course, we wouldn't wanna actually be playing any music, afterall these are posers don't you know). the movement takes a bigger plunge when you realize that MOST OF THESE DUDES WASN'T EVEN BORN IN THE ERA THAT THEY'RE REPPIN. How the hell you gonna be wearing a shirt that says "80's baby" when you born in 92?
